How Often Should You Refresh Your Color?

Hair coloring isn’t a one-time decision — it’s a beauty ritual that evolves over time. Whether you’re going for a rich brunette, icy blonde, or a dimensional balayage, the key to keeping your hair color vibrant and fresh is regular maintenance. But how often should you really be visiting your salon?

At BIANÔRO, we believe in tailor-made schedules based on your hair type, color technique, and lifestyle. Here’s what you need to know.

Root Touch-Ups and Classic Color

If you’ve had a full hair color or root coverage (like a global brunette or blonde), we recommend a refresh every 4 to 6 weeks. This keeps the roots from showing and maintains a consistent, polished look. Waiting too long can result in uneven tones and require more intensive correction.

AirTouch and Low-Maintenance Blondes

For modern techniques like AirTouch, which blends light and dark strands seamlessly, the refresh cycle is more forgiving. Most clients return every 3 to 4 months for a full AirTouch session. However, toning is essential in between to keep the blonde from turning brassy or dull. We recommend scheduling a toner and treatment every 4–6 weeks to maintain the purity and shine of your blonde.

Balayage and Natural Looks

Balayage, like AirTouch, is a more lived-in color that allows for 8–12 weeks between touch-ups. But to maintain the tone (especially for cool blondes or ashy brunettes), regular gloss or toner appointments are a must. These can be done every 4–6 weeks and usually take under an hour — a quick way to revive your look.

Why Toners Matter

Toners aren’t just for blondes. They’re a powerful tool for adjusting warmth, enhancing shine, and sealing color after any lightening service. Regular toning helps:
